Joe Foulkes
Joe Foulkes. Could do with a rest

After last weeks excursion to Needham Market it’s back up the A14 tomorrow for the slightly shorter trip to Peterborough Sports to look forward to. The long journey to Suffolk reaped it’s benefits with an accomplished 3-0 win and hopefully we’ll see the same kind of result at Peterborough tomorrow.

That win was ruined three days later though when we failed miserably at home, in the league, yet again. Second from bottom, and only four goals, Marine AFC came to Aggborough on Tuesday evening and all we had to do was put them to the sword and go all out to score, then win. The three points would have taken us up into a more respectable sixth place by the end of the evening but instead it was Marine that looked the more likely to win by the end.

Abysmal is a good word.

Now we face another side struggling at the wrong end of the table and this time we have to be ruthless if we want to get this monkey off our back. The last time we played Sports was in the FA Trophy last season while we were in the division above. We didn’t play well that day either with a mix of first team and youngsters lining up but at least we were holding them to a scoreless draw until in injury time up popped Michael Gash in the dying seconds to send us crashing out of the Trophy.

The news came this week that Alex Penny would be out of action for quite a while following the revelation that he can’t travel due to a minor vertebrae fracture (the same as Joe Leesley had) and will be having bed rest first and then hopefully that’ll allow it to mend. There wouldn’t be an operation because surgeons will not go near the spine due to complications from surgery (personal experience) unless it is life threatening.

Both Paul Downing and Ben Beresford are still out long term and AFAIK there are no new additions to the injury list. Joe Foulkes is now on five yellow cards but will play against Peterborough but will miss the Buxton FC game next Saturday. And he’s knackered so could do with the rest.
