25-09-20 - News - The Reds get Alvechurch away in the FA Cup

At long last we have the first real sign of a season about to get underway with the delayed FA Cup draw announced earlier today. In it we were paired up with local side Alvechurch making it our first FA Cup game against them since September 1977.

It was back then that the game was taken to replays, not once but twice, after the first game there was drawn 2-2. The first replay, at Aggborough ended 1-1 so it was back to Lye Meadow for another go and this time we triumphed 1-0 to land us another away tie at Highgate Utd. We scraped through that but went out to AP Leamington a few weeks later at Aggborough.

In recent years it has been mainly Worcester Senior Cup games that have bought us together and the results there don’t bring much pleasure having lost the last two WSC games 3-0 and 6-0 but a friendly game there a few weeks ago did see us win 4-1.

Alvechurch put paid to Shifnal Towns hopes last Tuesday winning 2-0 in Shropshire and they’ll be fired up for this one too. It’s up to us to make sure that isn’t the case although we are nowhere near match fit yet. Tomorrows ‘behind closed doors’ friendly at Stockport County might go a long way to helping us out on that front.
