25-03-23. Match report Vs Alfreton Town

Sir Russ Penns search for a striker, continues

Report: Phil Lench

Yet another lacklustre display from the Harriers bored the watching fans into a state of torpor and has also left me bereft of any idea of how to go about making this match report sound anything like interesting.

Very little happened in the first half until Ethan Freemantles self inflicted injury when he tackled an Alfreton defender for a ball that he had zero chance of reaching. The gash to his face has been deemed so bad that he won’t play again this season. Sadly Russ Penn mentioned in his post match interview that he’ll be back for next season. Damn!

Alex Penny came back into the side following his return from yet another injury while Joe Leesley was on the bench after being out injured since January 1st. Joe Foulkes made way for Alex while there was no sign of Tom Owen-Evans, Keziah Martin and Tom Leak again making one think that their days are numbered at Aggborough.

We had a couple of half chances to score that rare commodity: a goal. We didn’t and that’s the first half report done.

HT: 0 – 0

The second half was even worse than the first although we did come closer to scoring one of those things. The actual game itself was poor quality from both sides though with Alfreton showing very little inclination to get forward although their lad taking throw-in’s was making up the yards running with the ball, before releasing it, unhindered by the officials over and over again. In response we failed to do likewise and so missed the chance of getting any nearer goal.

We tested George Willis, in the Alfreton goal, a few times through Ashley Hemmings and Alex Penny with the latter coming the closest with a strong header across the face of goal.

The one blessing is that we kept Matt Rhead quiet although he did go down too easily when anyone approached him. Thankfully it wasn’t in the penalty area otherwise it could have been that all familiar scoreline: Harriers 0 Alfreton Town 1. Rhead, 90th minute (pen)

FT: 0 – 0
