Preview: Phil Lench
The Harriers are off on their first long distance Christmas derby tomorrow when, instead of the nice little trip to Hereford FC or AFC Telford Utd, we’re off to sample the delights of the M25 for the game at Boreham Wood. You’d have thought with Solihull Moors and Oxford City a little closer to us that the National League would have seen sense and we’d be going to one of those instead but the NL don’t seem to be able to put two and two together.
At least during that 130 mile trip the team will have time to reflect on yesterdays performance that saw us lose at home again, this time to Southend Utd. Again we played well but the tactics were wrong and we reverted back to a solo striker up front – at home – when in the recent games against Oxford, Ebbsfleet Utd and Stourbridge we played two upfront and got a draw and two wins. Russ Penn must have thought that wasn’t working so at Maidenhead last week it was back to the one up and we lost.
The only thing you could say in their favour was that the Southend keeper, Collin Andeng Ndi, played an absolute blinder to keep his sides 2-1 advantage but at the end of the day relegation is beginning to stare us in the face. Especially if we fail to beat Boreham Wood away and at home at the turn of the year.
Apart from the new extension to Joe Leesleys long term injury we should be at full strength for the game tomorrow but we might see a couple rested to give others a chance of a run out.
Hopefully it’ll be the right changes.
Referee: Mr Callum Walchester. Lowestoft
