The Harriers took on a Wolverhampton Wanderers XI this evening that including a smattering of players that had seen 1st team action at various times in the recent past. We included two new faces and this time they came from clubs much higher up the pecking order in the world of football.
One of those, defender Rhys Williams has come in on a loan trial from Liverpool and is very highly rated at Anfield. The other, a keeper, has come in on loan trial from QPR no doubt due to the John Eustace links within that club. Marcin Brzozowski is Polish born and plays in Rangers under 23 side.
In an entertaining game, a four goal haul from Ashley Chambers included three penalties and the fifth from Ed Williams.
It was the Reds that took charge from minute six when Chambers was upended in the area and got up to slot the resulting spot kick home. He also slotted home the following goal too when Ed Williams met a similar fate in the area in the thirty second minutes and his third goal came on the stroke of half time when he won the battle for the ball and made his way towards goal before striking the ball beyond the Wolves keeper.
After the break it wasn’t long before Ash added to his tally with goal number four and again it was a penalty. A handball from a Wolves player was the verdict and up stepped Chambers again to bury the ball in the back of the net. We looked to be home and dry.
The final goal came in the sixty third minute when Ed Williams got himself onto the end of a Sam Austin cross into the area and slotted it home. From then on it was subbing time with a variety of players exchanging places. Richard Peniket came on for Alex Prosser while a few minutes later the hero of the evening made way for the U23’s striker Knory Scott.
That was our final home friendly game on Saturday we go the short distance to Halesowen for our final friendly before the season starts in anger the following Saturday at home to Leamington FC
