20-09-24. Kidderminster Harriers Vs Alfreton Town. Match preview

Preview:Phil Lench

Harry Ibbitson
Harry Ibbitson’s turn for a loan with the Harriers

The Harriers will be facing Alfreton Town tomorrow with loads of injuries beginning to affect our season. This makes a change to the normal situation playing them because the injuries usually come after the game!

We now have Paul Downing, George Cooper and Ben Beresford out with bad injuries but, thankfully, Alex Penny will be back for the game. The worst of the injuries is to Cooper who managed to get twenty minutes under his belt while on loan here until he went off injured with a pectoral muscle injury that will see him out of the game for up to three months. This long a period will probably mean the end of his loan with us and a return to Mansfield Town.

Downing has a torn calf muscle and could be out for another month while Beresford is almost ready to begin training once more following his hamstring injury but is still a few weeks away before reaching full fitness. It’s not really known what ails Alex but it’s possibly his dodgy knee once again.

With Beresford out we were in need of a cover striker and to that end in came Harry Ibbitson on loan from Bradford City on Wednesday. A prolific striker with the U23 side there we’ll have to hope that can be repeated with us in the mens game. His thirty one goals at a junior level last season bodes well that he knows where the back of the net is.

We got through a banana skin in the FA Cup last weekend with a late, late goal from Amari Morgan-Smith seeing us through against Leek Town. His two goals mean that we’ll now be facing a tougher task at Buxton FC in the next round.

Alfreton are having a decent season so far and sit directly below us in seventh place in the league table. They’ve only lost the one game away from home and it’s their drawn games that have stopped them from being above us. Hopefully our unbeaten home form will see us through but this game has got a 0 – 0 draw written all over it.

Stop press: Harriers bring in defender Kam Kandola earlier today
