18-01-22 - Report - Hereford FC 0 Kidderminster Harriers 2

A night to forget for the Harriers

Report: Harriershane

After the last minute heroics at Darlington at the weekend the Harriers made the short trip to Hereford FC’s Edgar Street for the first half of the rescheduled clashes from over Christmas.

Ethan Freemantle came into the side as the only change from Saturday but only lasted half an hour as he pulled up with a muscle injury. It was a quick return to the line-up for Amari Morgan-Smith then.

The game was late in kicking off – ten minutes in fact – with some kind of electrical issue in the ground although all of the floodlights and shed lights were working. It must have been the light on the boardroom drinks trolley that had blown then. When it did kick off the Harriers were poor in possession with The Bulls picking up everything in midfield. It took only four minutes for Jaanai Gordon to try his luck, forcing a corner.

Harriers were able to sting the palms of Brandon Hall, as Omari Sterling-James sent an effort goalwards. Sam Austin tried his luck, but was also thwarted by his former team mate. Hereford controlled the half as it drew to its conclusion; Ben Pollock planting a header off target from a corner before they took a deserved lead.

The Harriers failed to deal with another corner with the ball falling to the former Stratford Town man Gordon who lashed home from twelve yards and sent the Hereford fans into ecstasy. Us into despondency.

HT: 1 – 0

With the fog coming down and hiding the worst bits of the decrepit stadium (basically all of it then) Herefords second goal came just three minutes into the second half to put the result past all doubt; Tom Owen Evans coolly finishing past Luke Simpson.

With the fog most of the second half had taken place as a veritable real life Spot The Ball competition. We didn’t win that either. Chances remained at a premium, with occasional efforts from range or headers from corners being offered up without any real discomfort for Hall.

Late on the Hereford sub Miles Storey should’ve given the score line the more comfortable look it really deserved, but Simpson was out quickly to deflect his effort away from the goal.

I can’t recall a shot on target from us. A night to forget and the end of our un-beaten run. Just why did it have to be Hereford?

FT: 2 – 0
