17-11-17 - Preview - York City Vs Harriers

The Harriers face one of the tough games away from home tomorrow when they travel to the historic city of York hoping to come back with all three points on offer.

Following their relegation, to the National North, last season City have been struggling up until now but with a new manager in charge they seem to have come good in recent weeks and now sit handily placed in the play-off zone.

Last Saturday we played Darlington in a controversial draw at home and it’s their old manager, Martin Gray, who is now the new man in charge at York. Since arriving at Bootham Crescent in early October he has overseen six games with two of those ending as wins, one as a draw and three in defeat. One of those defeats was at home to Tamworth two weeks ago so they can be beaten.

Gray has been busy changing personnel around and bought in ex Harrier Adam Bartlett in from his old club last week and Barts repaid him straight away by saving a penalty on his debut in their game at Alfreton where they won 3-2.

He has also seen the exit of young striker Ryan Edmondson to Leeds Utd for a substantial fee and will no doubt use that money to strengthen the side further. Edmondson only made his debut for York against Brackley in Martin Grays first game in charge.

As well as Bartlett two other former Harriers are now with City. Amari Morgan-Smith has been used from the bench this season while Simon Heslop is currently out of favour after refusing to play under former manager Gary Mills. It was thought he may get a reprieve under a new manager but that doesn’t seem to be the case and has now joined Eastleigh on a month long loan.

We’ll be without Tyrone Williams for the game, and the following two games, after he was dismissed against Darlington last Saturday. He tried to shepherd the ball out for a goalkick but was chased by their number nine Harvey Saunders who pushed him in the back. Tyrone retaliated as another Darlington player also pushed him in the chest but it seems that didn’t matter and only Tyrone got red carded.

Don’t you just love National North standard refereeing?

No doubt Sam Austin will play in his place unless James O’Connor moves there instead. That could see a return to the side for Liam Truslove after his injury. There is still no Dan Bradley or Lee Vaughan though.

We need to be at our best if we hope to get any kind of result in York and I’d be happy with a 0-0 draw if it means we get that suspect defence tightened up.
