Date: 17-10-21 The Harriers draw Grimsby Town in the Cup

17-10-21 - News - The Harriers draw Grimsby Town in the FA Cup 1st round

The Harriers reward for their FA Cup 4th qualifying round win at Bedfont Sports FC yesterday will be to renew old acquaintances with Grimsby Town.

On our way to Bedfont on the supporters coach yesterday we passed the Victoria Ground, the home of Bromsgrove Sporting, where Grimsby were about to arrive for their game against them. The Mariners ran out as easy 5 – 0 winners and, if foresight had been in mind, they could have stayed in Worcestershire to travel the few miles to play us.

We last played against Grimsby at Aggborough in August 2015 when we drew 2-2 with our goals coming from Reece Styche and Aman Verma. We lost up at Blundell Park a few months later and our ways parted with them going back into the Football League via the play-offs while eventually Colin Gordon sent us into the North to regroup ourselves. Yeh right!

Since then Grimsby have dropped back down into non-league but do find themselves in the number one position at the moment.

All told we’ve played them fifteen times, the first time was in November 2004, and have won five of those games but have lost six. I’ll leave you to work out the amount of drawn games. It isn’t hard.

The game will be played over the weekend of November 5th to the 8th and will mean that our game at Gloucester City on the 6th will now be re-arranged for a later date. With such a healthy following that Grimsby have it should also mean a return to the old days for us with a heaving South Stand once again and also a premium in car parking spaces.
