17-08-18 - Preview - Kidderminster Harriers Vs Darlington FC

Following a week of enforced rest the Harriers will be pitting their wits against Darlington tomorrow and we’ll be hoping to get our first win of the season. That could have come at Chester on Tuesday evening but on Monday the game was called off due to flood damage at the Deva Stadium resulting in the loss of the PA system and other security facilities. The game has now been rearranged for next Tuesday but that too looks doubtful following the cancellation of their home game against FC Utd of Manchester tomorrow for the same reason.

On Wednesday evening Darlington and Blyth Spartans played out a 1-1 draw at Blackwell Meadows and by all accounts Darlington should have run out easy winners after dominating the game and having three other goals ruled out. The scorer of their goal was none other than Reece Styche formerly of the Harriers.

We all know what to expect from him with his well known antics in conning the officials and no doubt he’ll employ the same tricks tomorrow.  It must work to some extent because he’s the leading scorer in our division with five goals including a hat trick at Brackley Town last Saturday.

The other one to watch out for is the former Harrogate Town striker Simon Ainge. He joined Darlington during the close season and so far has scored twice for his new club.

After our third draw in a row at home to Ashton Utd last Saturday we have to go one better this time out and to do that we’ll have to start with the team that we ended with plus one other. The one other is needed because we’ll be without Dan Bradley following his sending off during the game. He should have missed the game tomorrow, Curzon Ashton and Stockport County but thankfully he’ll now play against County due to the rescheduled Chester game in between.*

If we do go with the team that finished that’ll mean a start for our leading scorer Kane Richards. Three goals in three games isn’t a bad return for coming off the bench in all games so far and hopefully with a start he might add a few more into his bag by Saturday evening.

It was his late, late goal that gave us a point against Ashton after we went down 2-0 in the opening few minutes of that game but thanks to three second half goals we managed to salvage the draw although at one stage when Ashton scored a third that looked to be unlikely.

We should have a fully fit squad (apart from Bradley) to pick from for the game and that might include Liam Truslove too after it was learnt during the week that he’s not actually injured, just out of favour already.
