16-04-18 - Preview - Spennymoor Town Vs Harriers

The Harriers will be playing this much postponed game at somewhere other than Spennymoors Brewery Field ground tomorrow evening. Again for the umpteenth time this season the Moors have had to call a game off because of a waterlogged pitch and, at last, the FA have got off their backsides and done something about it.

Back now his suspension has ended

With the season quickly coming to an end they were told that their games would all need a pre-match inspection and if failed the game would have to be played elsewhere. Last week they had to play both Boston Utd (0-0) and Brackley Town (0-3) at Harrogate Towns ground and on neither occasion did they feel happy about it. On Saturday they were due to play North Ferriby at home too and that was called off late after, again, failing an inspection with no time to get the game played elsewhere. We must be the happier of the two with our style of playing better equipped for Harrogates 3G pitch than the Moors boggy, ploughed field.

We’ll have Lee Vaughan back in contention for a start after missing three games through suspension. Hopefully we’ll also have James Pearson or Joel Taylor back from injury too to give us a more solid defensive line up. Kennedy Digie did ok against Tamworth on Saturday but looked a little nervous at times while Sam Austin, no matter how many times he has taken the number three shirt, is no defender and hopefully next season he won’t be used in such a capacity too often.

Also missing on Saturday was Dan Bradley with a hamstring injury and I fear we may not see him again until the play-offs start at the earliest. Talking of play-offs it’s good to know that we have a confirmed place in them and it’s now up to us to finish as high as possible.

Spennymoor have a couple of injuries to worry about with top scorer Glen Taylor, Ryan Hall and David Foley all battling to make their way back. With them sitting in seventh place in the table we now have to hope they stay there because if they win tomorrow they would overtake Chorley FC and that would mean the Harriers having to meet our bogey team. Something we really do need to avoid.

It’s a pity that Moors have already played at Harrogates ground twice now so could well be getting used to it. If this game had been played last week then I would have felt a little more confident about it but I can see us having to grind out a draw.
