13-12-24. Radcliffe FC Vs Kidderminster Harriers. Match preview

Preview:Phil Lench

This game away at Radcliffe FC heralds the first return game of the season. We met up with them for the first time ever in our first home game of this season and recorded a 3-0 thumping of the new boys. The goals, from Zak Brown, Maz Kouhyar and Ashley Hemmings all came in a five minute second half cavalcade that bought them back to earth following their promotion into the National North for the first time ever.

Their time here has been a bit hit and miss with them sitting fourth from bottom with just four wins from nineteen games. That leaves them looking like one of the favourites to go straight back down along with the other two newcomers Marine AFC and Needham Market. It’s a bit sad really and shows that even at our lowly level it’s still hard for promoted clubs to jump that gap.

Hopefully we’ll be another week nearer a clean bill of health and might get to see Ben Beresford again after his brief return for three games in November, after being out since the Oxford City game at the end of September. Also overdue a return is Reece Devine after he got injured in the FA Trophy game against Halesowen Town a few weeks back. He was on the bench at AFC Fylde last week but didn’t come on.

Also due to come back is Kam Kandola following his one match ban but we won’t be seeing David Davis as he’ll now be serving his one match ban. I think? It seems a strange situation that a booking in a FA Trophy game doesn’t count towards missing a subsequent Trophy game but a booking in an ordinary league game means that it’ll be valid for a Trophy game??? Typical FA nonsense.

Talking of the Trophy last week we got through to the next round with comparative ease beating Fylde on penalties. We went into a two goal first half lead and survived a couple of Fylde attacks that got them two goals to equalise but we looked in no danger of conceding more. Then in the penalty shoot out they didn’t shoot any and we went through to face Slough Town in the next round in January.

Doesn’t it feel good beating Fylde?

As for tomorrow then I think we may be too strong for Radcliffe and we could be putting another nail in their relegation coffin.
