It’s that time of the season again and, as in recent years for us, it’s all come far too early. Yes it’s the start of our personal journey in the FA Cup and our journey starts with a home game against Warwickshire side Atherstone Town.

On Saturday last Town were seeing off Quorn FC by a single goal to earn the right to play us. In the previous round (preliminary) they beat Bedworth Utd 3-1 away and in the round before that they won 4-1 at Hanley FC. All their games have been away from home so far and, cruelly, that’s the way it stays for them. They won’t be looking forward to a trip to Aggborough.

Atherstone are based not far from Nuneaton between there and the M42 and they play their games in the Midland Football League Division One and stand in 5th place at the moment. They also have an old favourite of Harriers fans playing for them too. James Dance

James was with us for the 2013-14 season but didn’t settle in too well with us scoring three times in nineteen games. He went on to play for Rushall Olympic, Stafford Rangers and then to Chasetown where he fared better playing over ninety games for them. He joined Atherstone at the start of the current season.

The two sides have met before in the FA Cup. Back in 1992 we played them at Aggborough in the 4th qualifying round and won 2-0 with one of our goals coming from Richard Forsyth.

The game will be played on Saturday 22nd September and winning club will receive £9,000 from The FA prize fund.
