06-12-21 - News - Harriers get Reading in the FA Cup 3rd rd

Our reward for beating FC Halifax Town in the 2nd round of the FA Cup on Saturday is to welcome Reading FC of the Championship to Aggborough on, or about, January 8th.

The former Premier team Reading sit in twentieth place at the moment and are struggling to get results so they could be seen as a giant killing if we were to win. We have never played them in a proper game before but we did have a friendly against them way back in July 2002 We also had a former player of theirs with us and one that became a legend to our fans. That was one Johnny Mullins and he still lives locally in Bewdley so will no doubt be a guest of honour.

Saturdays game saw us cruise through with ease after Amari Morgan-Smith and Ashley Hemmings grabbed both of our goals early on in the game and we then kept their powder puff attack at bay for the remainder. Looking back at it we really should have stayed more on the front foot and tried to rack a hatful of goals up. Better to be safe than sorry though I suppose.

The other good thing about this game is that with us being ‘a minnow’ up against a ‘big club’ we will almost certainly be one of the main TV games and that will, hopefully, show the nation just how good we are.
