04-01-21 - Preview - Kidderminster Harriers Vs York City

Hoping for a first start

The Harriers will be hoping that tomorrow evenings game at home to promotion hopefuls York City will be able to go ahead. The forecast for the day is mainly below freezing so one has to hope that the covers are already on.

This game was originally supposed to have been played back in mid November but City had a case of COVID-19 in the camp so the game was, naturally, called off. With the virus still going strong this is yet another game that the fans will have to view on their TV’s.

On Saturday their game at home to Bradford (PA) was called off due to a frozen pitch while ours against Hereford FC went ahead following the clearing of the snow from the pitch on the previous day. In respect we’re wishing it had been called off now because our second half showing was the pits after such a barnstorming first half that saw us go into the break with a slender 1-0 lead that should have been at least three.

In the second half we came out in the belief that we had already won the game but Hereford had other ideas. How they didn’t score more than the one that they got from such a soft penalty we’ll never know. Our goal also came from a penalty that was nailed on when Yan Klukowski sent Ethan Freemantle flying but theirs was supposed to have been a push in the back on Lenell John-Lewis by Lewis Montrose. How we wish we had VAR sometimes.

We had a brief glimpse of our new loan signing, Jason Cowley, towards the end of the game but it wasn’t enough to tell how good, or bad, he is yet. Freemantle started the game leading the line in place of the suspended Amari Morgan-Smith but, again, failed to get on the scoresheet. Hopefully tomorrow Cowley will get the start to see if he can do the same for us as he has in his career so far: 125 goals in 161 games.

No doubt we’ll still be without Jim Kellermann. We’ve hardly seen him play so far in between injuries, suspensions and more injuries. We have no other injuries and neither have City although it’s hard to find any real information on possibilities.

This is a game that we’ll need to get something from. Our recent form hasn’t been the best having dropped down to eighth in the current form table even though we still remain in second place in the real league table. Both Chester FC and AFC Fylde drew level on points with us on Saturday and with Chester at home to Guiseley AFC tomorrow we could find ourselves dropping to fifth if other teams results don’t go our way.

Let’s get this season back on track.
