01-03-19 - Preview - Kidderminster Harriers Vs Nuneaton Borough

Hit a worldie at Ashton Utd

The Harriers take on our struggling neighbours Nuneaton Borough tomorrow afternoon and it promises to be a sad affair. With the Boro at the foot of the table, ten points less than FC Utd of Manchester and seventeen points adrift of safety, they look to be doomed to relegation.

Only a few weeks ago their chairman walked out on them saying that he couldn’t afford it anymore and now the monetary problems are surfacing the supporters trust are trying to raise money to pay for anything that needs paying for.

To that end the Harriers fans will hopefully be contributing to a collection at the game to help them in our own small way. Every little helps, as they say, and none of us want to see a club go under. Especially one that is so close to us geographically.

We have already helped them out, in a way, by allowing James Baxendale to join them recently. He’ll almost certainly be playing tomorrow due to their very small squad of just seventeen named players plus two keepers.

Those seventeen are playing for their lives though and they held leaders Chorley FC for a hour on Tuesday evening before eventually wilting to allow them to score twice. The same evening we were struggling to beat another lowly side, Ashton Utd, and only a worldie from the former Boro player Billy Daniels saw us grab all three points.

That result came in response to us throwing two points away at Blyth Spartans on Saturday when, at 3-1 up, we collapsed in the final few minutes to draw the game 3-3. We can only hope that we don’t have to go through a similar outcome at Aggborough tomorrow.

Reports from within the club imply that we’ll still be without Declan Weeks and Nick Clayton-Phillips with unknown injuries while Jimmy O’Connor is now back on his way to full fitness and could play a small part in the game. Hopefully Milan Butterfield will be back from international duty with Bermuda in time for the game too.

The win on Tuesday lifted us slightly up the table to ninth place and we’re still within touching distance of the all important seventh place. Time is running out though and, with most of the clubs above us winning their games regularly, then as the weeks go by it becomes harder and harder to make the points differences up.

There’s only one way to do that and that’s to win, win, win. Starting tomorrow.
