The former Newcastle Utd trainee Martin Brittain joined the Harriers just days before the start of the 2008-09 season after starring while on a month long pre-season trial for us.

After a promising start at Newcastle, where he made his debut against Manchester City, he was allowed to leave to join up with Ipswich Town with whom he made just the one Carling Cup appearance at Peterborough. While at Ipswich he went out on loan to Yeovil on two occasions before being released to join Carlisle and then Walsall.

He was released from the Bescot at the end of the season after making just three appearances for them.

Martin specialised in deadly free kicks and corners. Something we had missed since Jeff Kenna and Jonny Harkness left the club.

He left the club at the end of June 2009 and returned to his native North East to play for newly promoted Gateshead. Sadly, on September 5th 2009, Martin sustained a broken leg in Gateshead’s game at home to Hayes & Yeading.
