David McDermott was a locally born player that hailed from Stourbridge.

He started as a trainee with Walsall and soon broke into the first team to make a total of nineteen appearances for them before being released at the end of the 2007-08 season. He spent a short time on loan at Halesowen Town too where he played four games for them.

He joined the Harriers on an initial one year contract but was then given an extension to that contract a year later.

During his time with us David contracted a serious stomach illness that necessitated him being admitted to hospital on two occasions for exploratory surgery. It was found that he had a rare condition call Ulcerative Colitis that, once found, was treated and he started to make a full recovery.

In an effort to help him regain fitness he was sent out to Halesowen on loan for a month in February 2010. Just before the start of the following season he was given a chance to earn a new contract by Steve Burr but after just one friendly game against West Bromwich Albion he left the club to seek his fortune elsewhere with his first stop being York City.
