And then there were thirteen

The numbers at Aggborough are quickly falling now with the long expected departure of Keith Lowe following the virtual ripping up of his contract a few weeks ago. Even with the arrival of Cieron Keane on Tuesday we are still down to the bare bones, squad wise, with just thirteen registered players on the books.

Earlier today Lowe signed for League One side Macclesfield Town to team up with his former team mate Jared Hodgkiss who also signed for them a few weeks ago.

The move bought an end to a brilliant season for the much experienced central defender and also an end to his second spell with the Harriers.

He returned to Aggborough in January 2016 after leaving York City to be closer to his family in Stafford. He quickly settled down once more with us and became the team captain at the start of last season to lead us towards the ultimate failure of the play-offs.

Keith first came to us from Wolves in August 2008 on a one year contract but that wasn’t extended due to those ever present money problems and he moved onto Hereford Utd who were then still in the football league. From there he joined Cheltenham Town under the former Harriers manager Mark Yates staying with them for four seasons.

It’s sad to see such a dedicated player as Keith treated the way he was a few weeks ago and even though he made some mistakes, Fylde away anyone?, he was still a very solid defender and had formed a formidable partnership with Jordan Tunnicliffe until that, and the rest of our defence, was broken up in the wake of the Chorley defeat.

We wish Keith all the best with Macclesfield. It’s been a pleasure.
