27-10-17 - Preview - Stockport County Vs Harriers

The Harriers make the familiar journey back to Manchester this weekend when they stop off at Edgeley Park, the home of Stockport County. This league tie sees us take on another of the teams higher up than us and to be honest most teams are higher than us at the moment.

County are in ninth spot in the table while we have dropped down to fifteenth place, the same as when we drew at home to Curzon Ashton in September. Lose this game tomorrow and we could fall to our lowest ever, sixteenth, if Southport win at AFC Telford. If we do win, or draw, this then it’ll be our seventh game in a row undefeated.

We’ll be without James O’Connor who got himself sent off against Spennymoor last Saturday after giving away a last minute penalty and with it all three points.

We’ll also be without the usual two of Lee Vaughan and Liam Truslove with their long term injuries although Lee was videoed running this week so maybe we’ll see him back on the pitch soon. We could also still be without James Pearson (hamstring) and according to the Kidderminster Shuttle we may see further injuries to other players.

John Eustace said: “We’re down to the bare bones at the moment. Jimmy O’Connor will be suspended after his red and we are still without a number of players.

“But we know what the situation is as we’ve been this way for a while, so that won’t have any impact on what I expect from the players on Saturday.”

With only fourteen outfield players available to us we could see a loan coming in or, more likely, another ‘young’ player promoted from the first team just for the day. Tyrone Williams will no doubt move back into the centre of defence alongside Fraser Horsfall while Sam Austin could come into the side at fullback once more. That should go down well.

We play Stockport on the back of a 3-1 win for them at Nuneaton last Saturday. Goals from Jason Oswell, Gary Stopforth and Jimmy Ball gave them the win but the previous game at home to Blyth Spartans ended up with a reverse scoreline to give them their first home defeat of the season.

County will be without Sam Minihan with a groin problem but no other injuries are known about in their plentiful squad.
