26-07-17 - Harriers 1 Birmingham City 1

Own goal gives the Harriers the draw

It was the penultimate game of the friendly season this evening and regular close season visitors to Aggborough, Birmingham City, turned up once again.

In an exciting game it was the Harriers that pressed the Blues back in the first half with shots peppering on Adam Legzdins goal from James McQuilkin, Daniel Nti and new signing Declan Weeks. It was McQuilkin that forced the opening goal on ten  minutes when his pressure on Paul Robinson caused the City defender to put the ball past his own keeper.

David Cotterill had the first chance for the Championship club, now managed by the legendary Harry Redknapp, but his shot was rising all the time and went well over Brandon Halls bar. It was left to Clayton Donaldson to draw his side level on the half hour.

The second half was not so exciting as the two sides with Cotterill, again, going close for his side with a free kick that stung the hands of Hall. Another chance came their way later on when Maikel Kieftenbeld lifted his shot over the bar too.

In front of a big Blues backing of 1506 in the 2387 crowd the game came to an end as a satisfying 1-1 draw.
