The Harriers will be making the long, long trip up to Newcastle on September 30th for the next round of the FA Cup to take on Newcastle Benfield FC. Benfield is just East of the city centre and they play their games at the rear of a local high school.
Benfield compete in the EBAC Northern League at step 5, the same level as last Saturdays opponents Deeping Rangers, and at the time of writing are in thirteenth place with ten points from a possible twenty four. At the same time that we were putting four past Deeping they were beating Ashton Utd 2-1 in front of 149 paying guests to earn the right to go into this round.
In their ranks they have the former Newcastle Utd, Swansea City and Cheltenham Town striker Paul Brayson and also the former Forest Green and Bristol Rovers striker Steve Bowey.
Obviously we have never played Newcastle Benfield before and this will be another first for us. As with Deeping they’re an unknown quantity and again they have to be treated with respect before we smash ten past them. If only!
