15-12-17 - Preview - Harriers Vs York City

The Harriers will be up for this important FA Trophy tie against York City this weekend after seeing last Saturdays game at Chorley called off due to the wintry weather. The deep snow across the Midlands also saw Yorks game at AFC Telford Utd called off to so they, equally, should be just as rested and prepared for a tough cup game.

We only played City a few weeks ago and came back from there with a 1-1 draw that should really have been turned into a win for us. Such was our dominance in a game where chances went begging for us due to our profligacy in front of goal. A well struck strike from Ryan Croasdale saw the Reds take the lead but York hit back with a great free kick taken by Jon Parkin to give them an undeserved share of the points.

In the previous Trophy round we got past Boston Utd at the second attempt. The first game ended 2-2 with our goals coming from Andre Brown and Joe Ironside while in the 2-0 replay win the goals came from Elton N’Gwatala and Ironside again. Joe has now scored in all our last five games and hopefully that’ll continue tomorrow. City got through to meet us at the expense of Coalville Town in a 3-1 win.

For the game we’ll hopefully have James Pearson back in the squad following his hamstring injury prior to the ill fated Chorley match but it may be too early to call that. Apart from Lee Vaughan and Dan Bradley, out long term, we should have no other injuries. There is talk of a new player, Ed Williams from Gloucester City, joining us but nothing has been confirmed yet. Even if he did he would be cup tied having played for Gloucester in their Trophy defeat at Chesham Utd in the previous round.

York have been busy bringing new players into their squad since our previous game. The most recent is midfielder  Alex Pattison who has arrived on a month long loan from Middlesborough while a few days previous Sean McAllister and Jonny Burn arrived on loan deals from Grimsby Town and Bristol Rovers respectively. Going out the door from a month ago were defender Jassem Sukar and striker Gary Martin who left the club the day after scoring his first goal for the club against Coalville.

City will be without long term absentees Louis Almond, Michael Rankine and Clovis Kamdjo although Rankine is now back in light training after being out for a while with high blood pressure so might make the bench tomorrow. Two of the ex Harriers in their side, Adam Bartlett and Amari Morgan-Smith, are both expected to play against us while the other, Simon Heslop isn’t. He has just returned from a loan spell at Eastleigh but doesn’t figure in the managers plans.

So it’s former winners (and thrice runners-up) Harriers to take on the current Trophy holders York. Going to be a tough game but hopefully we’ll put Yorks Wembley dreams behind them. Actually I don’t want us to go to Wembley either but that’s just down to me not realising and booking a week in Italy on May 20th. Durrr!
