09-04-18 - Preview - Harriers Vs Stockport County

Back and raring to go

The Harriers will be facing a tough game tomorrow evening and one that could go a long way to finalising the remaining play-off places when Stockport County come to Aggborough on the back of a six game winning run and in the hope of a seventh consecutive win against us. That exceptional run of form has seen them climb into the top seven after being in mid-table for most of the season and, at the moment, they sit in fifth place just one point behind us.

With Brackley Town firmly ensconced in an uncatchable third place that leaves the remaining four places up for grabs with York City, Spennymoor Town and, sadly, Chorley the other teams in contention. Following our 2-1 win at Blyth Spartans on Saturday, and their slump in form, it looks likely that the Spartans won’t be in the mix at the end of the season.

We were without Dan Bradley at Blyth with him picking up a knee injury prior to the game but hopefully he’ll be back ready for the County contest. Also still missing was Joel Taylor with the mystery ear/eye infection that has seen him out of the side for three weeks now but at least we have James O’Connor back in the line-up after being out long term with a knee injury. He seemed to get through the weekend game unscathed so should start. We also have Liam Truslove back on the bench too now that his injury has cleared up.

Lee Vaughan will be missing through suspension and is now on part two of his three part ban for the red card at Boston Utd on Good Friday.

This will be the fourth time that we have played Stockport this season with the first game coming up there in October when we won 2-1 thanks to a brace of goals from Joe Ironside. We then met in the FA Trophy in January but got held to a 2-2 draw at home but then lost the replay 3-0 at Edgeley Park.

With only five games left now until the end of the campaign we need to make sure that we stay in fourth place to guarantee ourselves home advantage for the first play-off game. The only way to start doing that is by winning tomorrow night.
